I have an ultrasound guided biopsy on Monday and my Dr. said I should hear something in 2-3 days after. How long does it actually take to get the pathology report and test results?

Aunia, we all understand the angst of the wait. I had to wait 3 days. I also had an ultrasound guided biopsy. It didn't take that long and like Diana, I was just a little sore afterward.... remember to put some ice on the area. So many of these are benign, so don't worry yourself sick about it. Your doctor is just being proactive and looking out for your best interest. I have a huge circle of friends and many of them have had this type of test..... of them all, I am the only one whose test came out positive. Hang in there Aunia.... we are all here to help support one another. Blessings to you, Sharon

An MRI guided biopsy is different than an ultrasound guided biopsy. An ultrasound biopsy is not that bad really, it only takes about 15 min. Good luck and just keep in mind that most biopsies come back not showing any cancer.

As a nurse, I can say the results are done in 24hours. Some doctors are more proactive at getting the results. You need to call if you haven't heard within 24hours. Don't be afraid, you are not bothering the doctor. You are your own best advocate. Good luck to you!

Wow, hearing from a nurse that I can call after about 24hrs. is a relief. Thank you for the advice.

I can tell you early on, you will have to "drive this train" and be proactive on getting all of your tests together. Keep calling and inquiring when the results will be given to the doctor. Also make sure you get a copy of all test results. Good luck!

I remember waiting the weekend. Through my journey I found the MRI guided biopsy to Be the most challenging. I was literally positioned like superwoman (hands above My head on my tummy for 2 hours). It is so important to stay still. The machine is somewhat noisy. Make sure you ask for headphones and a blanket. If possible. Much love and continued strength!

Hi Aunia, waiting to hear back from your biopsy results is horrible!!! I remember waiting about 3 days & how tough it was. I'm glad I was at home when my surgeon called. My biopsy was not bad at all & just a little sore at the area for a couple of days. Just remember that approx. 80 of biopsies performed are benign. You'll be in my thoughts & prayers for good results!!! Hugs

I too have been so blessed to have excellent role models that have already paved the way for me. I can only hope to help others that have to walk this road.

I had biopsy of lymph nodes and breast done on a Tuesday, got the lymph nodes result on Friday and the breast result on Monday. I think that is reasonable when biopsy is done in doctor's office and they have to send out to have analyzed. in terms of pathology report, that is a different story. Pathology report is typically completed once all the tests, scans, etc are done and the oncologist has come up with a treatment plan. Depending on the facility you are going for treatment at it could be a week or two for the report itself. I hope this helps. Good luck on your treatment. Keep us updated.

Thanks, I appreciate your response, i know it can vary but i am hoping to get them back that soon. I have it on the 2nd and my b-day is the 5th, I don't want to spend it wondering. Knowing one way or the other is better than waiting and wondering.
