My drain from my ancillary node dissection has been in for 25 days and counting, I thought it was to be in for a week! I am some kind of a super drainer I guess, how can I get my flow to slow down enough for removal?

My flow hadn't slowed down after a month so my doctor removed them anyway because of the risk of infection, speak to your doctor about this.

I had a lot of fluid and my doctor said to up my protein. I don't know if it worked or my body was just ready to stop. I doubled my protein and within a week the fluid decreased.

Thanks I do have to start chemo on my aggressive tumor and am frustrated at all the waiting. I have had a nightmare of everything that can go wrong did, plus non cancer illness/surgery, and have been waiting since October diagnosis to get treatment started. I know this drain is not a big thing but its kinda on my last nerve;)

I understand I was there at one time also. And you right the waiting is the worst. Once you get started at least you know you're being proactive. But I pray that everything turns out great for you let us know and keep us posted. God bless.

One of my drains from mastectomy was in for over 3 weeks. It never slowed down but my PS thought the risks of keeping it in outweighed the benefits so she finally took it out. I never had any problems but i know fluid can build up in there and have to be drained. You don't want to have to go through that. Talk to your doctor about it.

Not being able to drive while it's in and following advice to do nothing are the maddening parts of it, especially with kids who need you. Patience is not one if my virtues;)

I can imagine. Your schedule sounds much busier than mine and I still was extremely frustrated. I also started having pain at the incision site every time I moved. I had a big celebration when I finally got that thing out! Good luck to you.

My drains were taken out in 2 weeks but then fluid built up. On my next doctor appt they used a syringe to take out a lot of fluid. Doctor said the body will eventually learn how to reabsorb the fluid back into the body and it will eventually not build up. That's what happened. So I guess it's just up to the practices of individual doctors as to when they remove drains. Good luck!
