I did not find the surgery that painful however I had pain under my arms from the lymph nodes they removed. The expanders are uncomfortable like you have a tight bra on especially after the are expAnded. But mine were filled quickly. Opening heavy doors is hard. Good luck to you I came home the next day and I am 59.

I had the same surgery in August 2012. Yes, it is painful. The first week and a half to 2 weeks were the worst. Just stay on top of your pain with pain meds. It's also to get out and walk, even a little, every day. The drains are annoying, but they are usually out by week 1 or 2. Your chest does feel tight but it gets better with time. Good luck to you!!

Maybe I'm just a rare case I don't know, but I can quite honestly say that I didn't have pain. I had discomfort but no pain. It does feel a little weird like there's something compressing ur chest and it takes some time to get used to but other than that it really does look worse than it feels. God has been very good to me though a lot of the symptoms that many people had during chemo, mastectomy, and radiation I did not have. It wasn't a walk in the park or anything, but it was just God that helped me thru it all. God bless. I'll be praying for u.

Diane, of course everyone is different, & I don't want to scare you, but yes, it hurts. At the time of placement, I had 150 cc's added to my expanders so that may have had something to do with it as well. My husband had to lift me for 2 days. Something easily as opening the fridge, I couldn't do. Heck, I couldn't open the bathroom door at the hospital, LOL! After the drains come out, you'll feel much better. They really are the worst part. You'll be ok, I promise. Prayers to you.
