Survivor since 2011I had my saline implants put in in August of 2011. I am still recovering. No pain except nerves regenerating. It's like a burning itchy feeling. You will feeling more normal everyday. I should say your new normal. Just take it one day at a time because everyone is different. God Bless you.

Stage 3A PatientI always felt a lot of tightness and muscular pain. It usually lasted a few days but it's manageable. Ibuprofen helps a lot, warm showers, and keep doing arm exercises.
Comment 2It went good I was so nervous when I saw the size of those needles but I barely felt a thing he did 60cc on each side And I'm really not that sore at all next week were gonna try 120cc and see how that goes I'm so excited that I'm actually gonna have boobs again lol Ty for your advice and concern:)

Hi there, I had my reconstruction two years ago and understand that it can be uncomfortable to deal with the tissue expander, especially right after the saline has been added. I would suggest you contact your plastic surgeon and follow up as you could have an infection, especially if the discomfort is at the port site. And remember, your pectoral muscle is being stretched as well so you may want to get things checked out. Good luck!
I don't think that is normal so it might be an idea to see your doctor. I have had expanders for 5 months and Although I have had a bit of pain it has never been in the area of the port. Good luck, I hope every thing is ok, I guess the worst thing that can happen is they will have to do your...

Learning About Breast CancerYes, they do. But I would advice to go with a small breast size for the implants! 400 ml, maximum! Other way it will be a big discomfort for a VERY long time!!
Comment 0??? Did not have reconstruction--want to make sure I make it to the 5 yr mark before I go to the trouble. I had St 2b Grade III no node involvement. Triple negative bc

I'm 27 years old and had a bilateral mastectomy as well. I just had my expanders replaced with silicone gel implants on September 1 and immediately felt relief while sleeping. I too am side/stomach sleeper and the expanders filled to capacity were rock solid large softballs sitting on my chest making it impossible for me to get a good nights sleep. I just recently tried sleeping on my stomach (while wearing a compression bra) and felt very comfortable. When I'm able to go without the compression bra, I think I may be slightly nervous but know it's a world of difference then the expanders. It's funny, someone recently said they heard that when someone has an augmentation their breasts are slightly firmer... my response is I wouldn't know. I can only compare the implants to the expanders and "knocking on wood" nothing can be that hard. The implants feel real to me in comparison, that's for sure!
After my mastectomy it felt like I was wearing an iron bra. It took me about 2 months after the surgery to sleep comfortably. I don't have my implants in yet but I don't find my expanders too uncomfortable.

Learning About Breast CancerI am right there with you. My surgery was one
Month ago. No, nothing that I am aware of that we can do.
Be patient. It took a good month before mine didn't feel alien, and 2 months or more before I could sleep at least a little on my side. But I didn't get mine expanded before I started chemo, so i've had it easy so far.

Hi,
I can't be sure if it was the radiation or expander, but I did have 2 fractured ribs. Around here and I'm sure other places, they will no longer do expanders/implants if the patient has radiation. I tried it when I opted for a 2nd mastectomy since I was "young", Stage III with more then 1/2 my lymph nodes positive, and wanted to get rid of places it likes to come back to. I don't regret having both breasts remove, my only regret is trying reconstruction. I could have gone with the tram or LD Flap, but wasn't willing to being in pain for 3-4 months, which at that time and I'm assuming still now, is the recovery time. Most I had talked to had multiple infections and tissue that died using the Tramp. And of course the cancer can still come back in that tissue.

I had a difficult time sleeping on my side after my breast reconstruction because of the pressure gravity and weight if the implant or expander. I slept on my back on several pillows in time it does get better, first with a pillow under my arms and now 10 years later it's not a problem. My implants are part of my body soft and jiggly.
I slept in a reclyiner for 5 1/2 months and the bed was out of the question. It burned badly. I propped a beany pillow under my arm.
